[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, visited Jeonbuk National University and Wonkwang University in Jeonbuk on the 24th, urging cooperation for attracting the multipurpose synchrotron radiation accelerator, the biggest issue in Honam, and engaging in all-round activities such as agreeing to establish dedicated beamlines.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 26th, Governor Kim agreed with Kim Dong-won, President of Jeonbuk National University, and Park Maeng-su, President of Wonkwang University, to each establish dedicated beamlines for the multipurpose synchrotron radiation accelerator. An establishment agreement was signed with the President of Wonkwang University, and an agreement with the President of Jeonbuk National University is planned to be signed soon.
Additionally, these university presidents pledged full support and cooperation for attracting the synchrotron radiation accelerator to the Honam region.
Accordingly, if the multipurpose synchrotron radiation accelerator is hosted in Naju, Jeonnam, the joint innovation city of Gwangju and Jeonnam, Jeonbuk National University and Wonkwang University will establish industry-academia-research cooperation dedicated beamlines.
Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam Province stated, “If universities actively utilize the multipurpose synchrotron radiation accelerator, it is expected that not only the specialized research fields of the universities but also the research capabilities in science and engineering will be enhanced, thereby strengthening university competitiveness.”
He added, “High-quality research outcomes from universities will lead to industries, creating a solid foundation for industry-academia-research cooperation that will drive the future industrial development of the region.”
