[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The number of newly confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) confirmed on the 26th is 10. The number has remained below 20 for eight consecutive days since the 18th.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, as of midnight on that day, the total number of confirmed cases in the country increased to 10,728. The number of patients isolated and undergoing treatment after infection was 1,769, down 74 from the previous day. The number of deaths increased by 2 during the same period, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 242.
Of the new patients, 9 were imported cases from overseas. Including 1 person at the quarantine stage, there were 6 in Gyeonggi, and 1 each in Busan, Daegu, and Jeonbuk. The remaining 1 patient was a community-acquired case in Daegu. This is based on information identified so far and may change depending on the results of epidemiological investigations.
The total number of patients presumed to be imported from overseas is 1,037, accounting for about 9.7% of the total cumulative cases. Most of the imported cases are Korean nationals. By region of overseas importation, the Americas including the United States have the highest number with 455 cases, followed by Europe with 446 cases. There are 115 cases from Asian regions excluding China, 17 from China, 3 from Africa, and 1 from Australia.
