[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Information Society Development Institute announced on the 26th that they will provide a fully revamped Public Data Portal service starting from the 27th.

The Public Data Portal is an integrated platform that gathers and provides all public data produced by a total of 878 institutions in South Korea in one place. Recently, it has also provided public data to overcome COVID-19, such as the status of public mask inventory (Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service), COVID-19 cases and screening clinic status (Ministry of Health and Welfare), overseas safety news (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and government-supported customized services (Ministry of the Interior and Safety).

This revamp focuses on making it more convenient for users to search public data and find the information they want. The 'National Data Map,' which shows the location of open public data, has transformed from simple keyword search to semantic search that displays related data.

By applying responsive web design, it allows easy access to public data on smartphones, and also provides a feature to log in conveniently using IDs from Naver or Kakao.

A public data registration function has been newly added to each institution's public data management system, improving the work environment so that staff can handle data opening tasks in one place without switching between internal administrative networks and internet networks.

Lee Jae-young, Director of Government Innovation Organization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "With the service improvement, it will become easier for citizens and businesses to use the public data they need," and added, "We will continue to promote digital government innovation so that more services utilizing public data are developed and the lives of citizens can become more enriched."
