[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Hollywood film studios in the United States have decided to postpone the release dates of Spider-Man and Marvel series movies, according to reports by Fortune and others on the 25th (local time).
According to the reports, Sony Pictures, which holds the rights to Spider-Man, postponed the release dates of movies and animations featuring Spider-Man in consideration of the COVID-19 situation.
First, the release date of the third installment of the 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' series starring Tom Holland was changed from July 16, 2021, to November 5 of the same year. Additionally, the sequel to the animation 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,' featuring a Black boy as Spider-Man, was delayed from April 8, 2022, to October 7 of the same year.
Disney also decided to adjust the release schedule of Marvel hero movies. Marvel had postponed the release dates of hero movies once earlier this month due to COVID-19, but with the delay of the Spider-Man movie and animation releases, they readjusted the release schedules of the 'Doctor Strange' sequel and the 'Thor' follow-up.
The release date of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' was originally November 5, 2021, but since the third 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' film was announced to be released on that day, the release date was postponed to March 25, 2022. The release date of 'Thor: Love and Thunder' was adjusted to February 11, 2022.
