[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] In the 21st National Assembly election for the Seo-gu Eul district of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Yang Hyang-ja, the Democratic Party candidate, won decisively against Cheon Jeong-bae of the Minsheng Party in a rematch.

Yang Hyang-ja stated, "I will do my utmost to meet the expectations and trust of the people," adding, "Our citizens have empowered the ruling party, asking President Moon Jae-in to take responsibility and successfully overcome the economic crisis following COVID-19."

She also said, "There were concerns about whether the National Assembly election schedule should be postponed due to the prolonged impact of COVID-19," but added, "However, our country's quarantine system and civic awareness are being recognized worldwide."

She emphasized, "The results of this general election can be seen as a report card showing that the competent Moon Jae-in administration handled the COVID-19 crisis well," and added, "We will address not only the national economic crisis but also the economic issues in Gwangju."
