[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Sang-ik, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, was elected as the mayor of Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do, in the election held alongside the April 15 general election.

According to the Central Election Commission on the 15th, candidate Lee Sang-ik secured 52.97% of the votes, surpassing independent candidate Jeong Cheol-hee (34.62%), Minsaeng Party candidate Kim Seong-ho (5.18%), independent candidate Jeong Du-suk (4.88%), and independent candidate Shin Gyeong-seon (2.33%).

In the early official campaign, Lee Sang-ik seemed to be leading, but the race became unpredictable when Jeong Cheol-hee, former chairman of the Hampyeong County Council and considered a strong contender, ran as an independent candidate.

However, on this day, Lee comfortably outpaced former chairman Jeong, securing his victory.

Accordingly, Lee will immediately begin his duties as mayor of Hampyeong-gun starting on the 16th.

Lee stated, “I will focus on revitalizing the Hampyeong economy by fulfilling the solemn mandate entrusted to me.”

Meanwhile, the pledges Lee promoted during his campaign included ▲creating a population of 50,000 and a budget era of 500 billion won through the development of the Bittgreen Industrial Complex hinterland ▲the Hampyeong Tourism 4·4·8 Project for mountains and seas ▲full purchase of general rice and implementation of onion price guarantees for evolving Hampyeong agriculture ▲century-long talent cultivation for Hampyeong’s future ▲emotional welfare that heals the heart ▲participatory county administration and open governance.
