Groundwave Exit Poll Results: "Democratic Party and Citizen Party Up to 178 Seats, Single-Party Majority" (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] According to exit polls from the three major terrestrial broadcasters, the Democratic Party of Korea and the Together Citizens' Party are expected to secure up to 178 seats.


Immediately after the close of voting on the 15th, KBS released exit poll analysis results showing that the Democratic Party and the Citizens' Party would secure 155 to 178 seats, while the United Future Party and the Future Korea Party would secure 107 to 130 seats respectively.


MBC projected that the Democratic Party and the Citizens' Party would secure 153 to 170 seats, and the United Future Party and the Future Korea Party would secure 116 to 133 seats. SBS analyzed that the Democratic Party and the Citizens' Party would obtain 154 to 177 seats, and the United Future Party and the Future Korea Party would gain 107 to 131 seats.


If these exit polls materialize, the Democratic Party will secure an outright majority for the first time in 16 years since the 17th general election in 2004.


As of this day, the number of seats by party is as follows: out of 290 total members, the Democratic Party of Korea holds 120 seats, the United Future Party 92 seats, the Future Korea Party 20 seats, the Minsheng Party 20 seats, the Together Citizens' Party 8 seats, the Justice Party 6 seats, the Our Republican Party 2 seats, the People's Party 1 seat, the Minjung Party 1 seat, the Open Democratic Party 1 seat, the Pro-Park New Party 1 seat, the Korea Economic Party 1 seat, and 17 independents.
