[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] According to the National Election Commission, as of 4 PM on the 15th, the nationwide voter turnout rate recorded 59.7%. This is 9.5 percentage points higher than the 50.2% recorded at the same time during the 20th general election.
By region, Jeonnam had the highest turnout at 63.0%. Jeonbuk (62.5%), Sejong (62.3%), Gyeongnam (61.5%), Gangwon (61.3%), Gyeongbuk (61.1%), Seoul (61.0%), Ulsan (60.8%), Busan (60.6%), and Gwangju (60.5%) all exceeded a 60% turnout rate.
Daegu (59.8%), Daejeon (59.6%), Chungbuk (58.1%), Gyeonggi (57.8%), Jeju (57.4%), Chungnam (57.0%), and Incheon (56.4%) followed behind.
Meanwhile, voting will end at 6 PM today. Voters must bring a photo ID such as their resident registration card, passport, driver’s license, or youth ID and vote at their designated polling station.
