[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) announced on the 15th that it will hold a Win-Win Market in cooperation with Jeonnam Province.

The Win-Win Market was prepared to secure sales channels for farmers and fishermen who are struggling with the distribution of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products due to the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.

Until the 19th, 21 farms and companies will participate in the event held at the 1st floor event hall and the basement 1st floor food hall, showcasing over 100 kinds of excellent agricultural, fishery, and livestock products from Jeonnam.

At the 1st floor event hall, more than 100 types of agricultural products and processed foods will be sold, and at the basement 1st floor food hall, livestock products (Korean beef) and seafood (abalone, rockfish, etc.) will be cooked and sales will be promoted.

Additionally, the market will offer eco-friendly agricultural products such as Jangseong apples and Naju melons, which have faced sales difficulties due to the suspension of school meals, at affordable prices.

An event is also planned where consumers who purchase more than 30,000 won will receive 500g of ‘Punggwangsuto,’ a joint rice brand of Jeonnam, with 100 units given daily on a first-come, first-served basis during the event period.

Moreover, the ‘Eco-friendly Agricultural Product Package’ is available at around 10,000 won, including lettuce, perilla leaves, red spinach, butterbur, and potatoes, and at around 20,000 won, including lettuce, perilla leaves, organic eggs (10 pieces), potatoes, young radish, and cheonggukjang, allowing purchases at prices cheaper than regular sales.

Representative products include 8 Gokseong apples for 8,800 won, 1kg of Yeosu mustard kimchi for 10,000 won, 1kg of Suncheon traditional soybean paste for 23,000 won, 100g of Jangseong samchae octopus jeotgal for 4,500 won, and 1 Naju musk melon for 10,000 won.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Jeonnam Province plans to thoroughly prevent large crowds by focusing on hygiene management such as requiring participating company workers to wear masks, sanitary gloves, and caps, and use hand sanitizers during the event period.

Kang Jong-chul, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division, said, “Although social distancing is in full effect due to COVID-19, it was difficult to ignore the farmers and fishermen who are struggling with sales decline and expanding sales channels. Jeonnam Province plans to use all possible online and offline means to support them, and hopes everyone recovers their mind and body exhausted by COVID-19 by enjoying fresh and high-quality agricultural, fishery, and special products from Jeonnam.”

Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, “We prepared the Win-Win Market to help farmers and fishermen who are struggling due to COVID-19, even if just a little.”

Meanwhile, Gwangju Shinsegae has donated 10 million won for emergency relief supplies to the Gwangju Youth Center for local youth, and is conducting various social contribution activities such as paying April and May fees early to about 50 small and medium-sized partner companies that wish for early payment of product fees.
