[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist] ○…The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America) is providing emergency relief funds amounting to 5 million dollars (approximately 6.08 billion KRW) to assist those working in the golf industry...
On the 14th (Korean time), the POA stated, "The entire golf-related industry is facing a severe economic crisis due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)," and added, "We have decided to establish a fund to provide financial assistance to them, even if only temporarily." Currently, in the United States, professional golf tournaments have been 'shut down,' leaving many tournament-related workers unemployed, and half of the golf courses have closed, threatening the livelihoods of many people.
The emergency funds will support lesson professionals, caddies, course managers?who make up most of the POA members?as well as golf course owners struggling with financial difficulties. The POA plans to contribute 2.5 million dollars initially, with the remaining 2.5 million dollars to be raised through other organizations. The PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Golf Course Superintendents Association, Golf Course Owners Association, and Golf Equipment Distributors Association have all expressed their intention to participate in raising the fund.
