원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Former U.S. President Barack Obama has effectively confirmed former Vice President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate by endorsing him.
On the 14th (local time), former President Obama emphasized in a video message, "Leadership guided by knowledge, experience, honesty, humility, empathy, and dignity is needed not only in states and cities but also in the White House," adding, "This is why I proudly support Biden for President of the United States."
He further explained, "Choosing Biden as Vice President was one of the best decisions, and I believe he possesses all the qualities needed in a president today." Biden served as Vice President for eight years during the Obama administration.
Former President Obama praised Sanders, who declared his support for Biden a day earlier, for the progressive values and enthusiasm of the younger generation he championed during the primary process, while also urging unity within the Democratic Party. This was interpreted as emphasizing the will for regime change through an alliance of progressives and moderates.
Obama stated, "The Republicans who control the White House and the Senate have no interest in progress but only in power," and added, "Good-hearted Americans must unite now against politics characterized by corruption, indifference, misinformation, ignorance, and sheer meanness."
CNN described this as "former President Obama’s public reappearance in the political arena," and predicted that the former Vice President Biden’s campaign would gain further momentum.
