[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongju City, Gyeongbuk announced on the 14th that it reopened the livestock market, which had been temporarily closed due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), starting from the 13th.
This came 50 days after the livestock market operations were suspended on February 24, two days after the first confirmed case occurred in the Gyeongju area.
At the livestock market, auctions for beef cattle, calves, and breeding cows are held every Monday. On the reopening day, the 13th, 446 animals including 382 calves and 64 large cattle were auctioned.
Calves were traded at around 4.5 million KRW, and female calves at 3.45 million KRW, about 10% higher than the average price, according to Gyeongju City.
The auction on that day was conducted under a quarantine management system, including prior entry applications from sellers, buyers, and transporters to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
