[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Samsung Electronics has completely halted operations at its two production plants in Brazil.
On the 26th (local time), Samsung Electronics announced that as the COVID-19 situation worsens, it will suspend operations at its Campinas plant in S?o Paulo state in the southeast region for two weeks from the 30th of this month to the 12th of next month to ensure the safety of its employees.
Additionally, the planned suspension of operations at the Manaus plant in Amazonas state in the north, originally scheduled from the 24th to the 29th, has been extended until the 12th of next month.
Samsung Electronics explained that this decision is a preemptive measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 and is aimed at thoroughly inspecting the plants before resuming operations.
Previously, Samsung Electronics’ Latin America headquarters, Brazil sales corporation, and Campinas R&D Center began remote work from the 23rd and temporarily closed all offline stores across Brazil starting from the 24th.
Accordingly, all product sales will be shifted online, and the company plans to announce the reopening schedule of offline sales depending on the local situation. Samsung Electronics operates production plants in Campinas and Manaus and runs 300 directly managed stores and 17 service centers.
