Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station Conducts Preliminary Inspection of Mountain Location Signboards and More

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Moon Gisik) announced on the 25th that it conducted a preliminary inspection of mountain location signboards (7 locations) and 119 first aid kits (4 locations) installed around the Eodeungsan and Yongjinsan hiking trails.

This preliminary inspection was carried out to prepare for mountain accidents and safety incidents during the spring thaw season.

During spring hikes, the ground that was frozen can collapse easily with slight impact, and areas that do not receive much sunlight may still be frozen, potentially causing accidents.

Additionally, caution is required as wet fallen leaves and moss on stones can cause ankle or back injuries due to carelessness.

In the past three years, the average monthly number of mountain rescues was 586 in February and March, while 802 occurred in April and May. The main cause of accidents was slips and falls, accounting for 24% (6,893 cases).

Chief Moon Gisik said, “It is most important to follow hiking safety rules for a safe hike,” and added, “In case of unexpected mountain accidents, please use the mountain location signboards installed on major hiking trails to report to 119.”
