[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] On the 8th, 179 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were identified in South Korea. Adding to the previously confirmed 7,134 cases, the total number of patients has increased to 7,313.


According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, 179 additional cases were confirmed from midnight to 4 p.m. on the same day. During the entire previous day (from midnight on the 7th to midnight on the 8th), 367 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total domestic cases to 7,134. The 179 cases represent the newly confirmed patients during just over half a day on the 8th.


The Countermeasure Headquarters announces the status of newly confirmed cases as of midnight each day and separately discloses additional cases confirmed between midnight and 4 p.m. on the same day. The 4 p.m. confirmed case count is released to show trends in case increases or decreases; however, the locations of confirmed cases and infection routes are not disclosed.


So far, a total of 50 deaths have been confirmed in South Korea, an increase of 6 from the previous day. The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation increased by 12 during the same period, totaling 130. As of midnight on the day, a total of 188,518 diagnostic tests (including confirmed cases and deaths) have been conducted, an increase of 10,329 from the previous day.
