One More COVID-19 Case Confirmed in Gangnam-gu...Total 12 Cases (9 Residents of Gangnam)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] On the 5th, one additional COVID-19 case was confirmed in Gangnam-gu.

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) conducted proactive COVID-19 testing on 14 employees of a game content production company located in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, where a female confirmed positive case from Yongin City Public Health Center on the 3rd works. Among them, one more person was confirmed positive on the 5th.

As a result, the total number of confirmed cases among 1,669 people tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center has increased to 12 (9 residents of Gangnam, 3 from other areas) as of that day.

The 38-year-old male employee residing in Yeoksam-dong, who was confirmed positive on that day, had shown symptoms of high fever and muscle pain since February 29 but had endured it thinking it was a common cold. After a female colleague was confirmed positive at Yongin City Public Health Center, he underwent testing at Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 3rd and was confirmed positive.

Gangnam-gu Public Health Center is conducting additional mass testing on the remaining 65 employees of the game content production company where the confirmed case works. Thorough disinfection has been carried out at the confirmed case’s villa residence in Yeoksam-dong, the company building, and four nearby locations including a convenience store, restaurant, and cafe.

The company where the confirmed case works had already implemented work-from-home for 80 employees starting February 28 after hearing about confirmed cases at a similar game company in Pangyo. The employee who tested positive on this day had also been working from home. Therefore, it is presumed that the three employees who tested positive were infected before February 28, prior to the start of remote work.

Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "Gangnam-gu is conducting additional detailed epidemiological investigations together with Seoul City epidemiologists to prevent any possible cluster infections."
