[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Liberty Unification Party and the Our Republican Party are merging under the name "Liberty Republican Party."

On the 3rd, the Liberty Unification Party announced that it had agreed to merge through a consultative body consisting of three members from each party and will hold a press conference at the National Assembly Press Center in the afternoon. At this event, the unified party name, Liberty Republican Party, will be officially announced.

The press conference will be attended by Kim Moon-soo, leader of the Liberty Unification Party, and Cho Won-jin, leader of the Our Republican Party, as well as independent lawmaker Seo Cheong-won (8 terms, Hwaseong-si Gap, Gyeonggi Province) and Kim Soon-rye, a first-term proportional representative lawmaker from the Future United Party.

After being cut off (excluded from nomination), Lawmaker Kim criticized at the party's supreme council meeting on the 2nd, saying, "I was cut off without a primary election, citing my remarks on May 18 as a problem," and added, "If problems arising from the process of opposition struggle for the nation and the people are shifted onto individuals in this way, what is the purpose of the party's existence, and who will be loyal and take the lead in the struggle?"

He also said, "External figures related to the centrist conservative grand unification are acting as if they are of the highest noble rank, while those who have devoted themselves to the party through street rallies are being treated like low-class people, pushed out, and losing their positions."
