[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Convenience store 7-Eleven announced on the 11th that it will start a convenience store food delivery service in partnership with Yogiyo, a leading domestic delivery app, and Mesh Korea Vroong, an IT-based logistics startup.
7-Eleven will provide delivery service for a total of about 330 products, including representative promotional items such as 1+1 and 2+1 deals, various set products for ordering convenience, lunch boxes, desserts, ready-to-eat foods, home meal replacements (HMR), and daily necessities and hygiene products.
Delivery is available for orders of at least 10,000 KRW (delivery fee 3,000 KRW), and orders can be placed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. When customers order through the Yogiyo app, Vroong delivery personnel pick up the ordered products from 7-Eleven and deliver them.
To this end, 7-Eleven has prepared about 30 differentiated set product items. The ‘Modisumer Set’ includes items such as ‘Ravioli’ (Italian-style dumplings) made with spaghetti, meatballs, and dumplings, and ‘Gopchang Noodles’ made with stir-fried beef intestines, rice noodles, and soft-boiled eggs. The ‘One Meal Set’ contains lunch boxes, salads, and desserts, while the ‘Seven Select Set’ consists of private brand (PB) products such as cup noodles, snacks, and beverages.
7-Eleven has selected 10 major stores in key commercial areas mainly in the metropolitan area to start a pilot operation and plans to gradually expand the order channels and operating stores in the future.
Ko Young-guk, head of the 7-Eleven ebiz team, said, “The ‘Last Fit Economy,’ which focuses on convenience and satisfaction mainly among young consumers, has recently emerged as a consumption trend. As food consumption through delivery apps is becoming a representative dietary culture centered on single-person households, we plan to gradually expand the number of stores where the service is available.”
