[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is making every effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus by conducting disinfection and quarantine for 2,000 low-income vulnerable households and supporting 50 small-scale welfare facilities with disinfection sprayers and disinfectants.

As the WHO (World Health Organization) declared an international public health emergency and the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in Korea increased to 27 as of the 9th, the district is actively and proactively protecting the health and safety of residents.

First, the district plans to complete disinfection and quarantine by the 21st for 2,000 households including low-income vulnerable groups, high-risk groups who have contacted visitors from China, and areas densely populated by Chinese residents.

The disinfection work is being carried out by the Yeongdeungpo Regional Self-Support Center’s Young Clean Cleaning Team, with four teams visiting 120 households daily to thoroughly disinfect the entire house. This will provide virus blocking effects lasting about one month.

In addition, the district supports 50 small-scale social welfare facilities in the area with disinfection sprayers and disinfectants to eliminate blind spots in quarantine.

Since welfare facilities are mainly used by health-vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, disabled persons, and homeless people, this support aims to remove infection factors in advance.

The facilities use the provided disinfectants with ultra-fine particle sprayers to powerfully spray and remove viruses and bacteria without missing even the smallest areas.

The disinfection sprayers were supported through sponsorships of 10 million KRW from Koscom and 6 million KRW from the District Social Welfare Council.

Koscom has been setting an example in society by conducting sponsorship activities for the Yeongdeungpo area for several years.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We aim to block the spread of the novel coronavirus through thorough disinfection work for vulnerable groups and welfare facilities,” adding, “Yeongdeungpo-gu will continue to take proactive measures to protect the health and safety of residents until the situation is resolved.”
