Gangseo-gu Expands Free Shuttle Bus Service for Transportation-Disadvantaged Residents

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is expanding the operation of free shuttle buses for transportation-vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly.

The district has the highest number of residents with disabilities among Seoul’s autonomous districts, and the elderly population is continuously increasing. To provide mobility convenience to these transportation-vulnerable groups, the number of free shuttle buses has been increased from one to two.

In particular, to allow more transportation-vulnerable residents in the area to use the service, two new routes have been created based on the existing routes that operated separately in the morning and afternoon.

The new routes were designed by analyzing big data such as areas with many residents with disabilities and elderly people, locations of welfare facilities, floating population, and road width, and by reflecting opinions from disability organizations to enhance user convenience.

Additionally, to address any issues with the new routes, a pilot operation focusing on elderly users of welfare centers will be conducted until the end of January, with improvements made before full operation begins in February.

Gangseo Route 1 passes through Gippeunuri Welfare Center, Deungchon-Gayang Welfare Center, Yeomchang Station, Gangseo Health Center, Gangseo District Council, Nambu Market, Hwagok 2-dong Community Service Center, and Gangseo District Office.

Gangseo Route 2 passes through Gippeunuri Welfare Center, Hwagok Station, Gangseo District Office, Gangseo Senior Welfare Center, Balsan Station, Magok Station, Sign Language Interpretation Center, Banghwa 3-dong Community Service Center, and Seoul Botanical Garden.

Each route’s free shuttle bus operates five times on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:20 p.m.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song of Gangseo-gu said, “We are expanding the operation of free shuttle buses so that transportation-vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly can easily access welfare and public transportation facilities freely and without burden,” adding, “We will continue to promote various policies to enable transportation-vulnerable groups to actively participate in social activities.”
