[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 28th that it will actively promote an energy efficiency residential environment improvement project targeting energy-vulnerable and low-income households, in accordance with the agreement between the Korea Energy Foundation and Nam-gu Office to support energy efficiency improvements for low-income groups.

Accordingly, Nam-gu will accept applications at the local administrative welfare centers in residential areas until July for improving the residential environment of vulnerable households, including insulation, window and floor work, boiler replacement, and distribution of cooling devices.

The support targets include households receiving the National Basic Livelihood Security benefits, near-poverty groups, and low-income households in welfare blind spots recommended by the neighborhood chiefs.

However, households simply wishing to replace wallpaper or flooring, owner-occupied households among residential benefit recipients, rental housing and apartments owned by LH and the Korea Expressway Corporation, and households that have received support through the same project within the past three years are excluded from the support.

Nam-gu plans to select 300 households with poor energy usage and residential environments through a demand survey after receiving applications until July, and provide national funding of around 2 million KRW per household.

A Nam-gu official said, “Residents struggling with energy use can reduce energy costs and improve their living environment through this project,” and added, “We will do our best to discover and promote target households so that benefits reach low-income families in urgent need of energy welfare.”
