[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Eastar Jet announced on the 20th that it held an inaugural ceremony for the Jeju~Shanghai (Pudong International Airport) route on the 17th and commenced its first flight.
Eastar Jet's Jeju~Shanghai route operates four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday). Utilizing the visa-free entry system, it plans to attract Chinese inbound tourists and revitalize the route by offering products that connect the Incheon~Shanghai route with domestic flights.
According to Eastar Jet, the return flight from Shanghai to Jeju on the 18th, the first flight's return leg, recorded a passenger load factor of over 95% through local sales alone.
An Eastar Jet official stated, "Since this route has abundant local demand from Chinese visitors to Jeju, we expect to generate profits in a short period," adding, "We plan to revitalize the route through active marketing, including securing additional slots and developing travel products using inland routes."
