[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation ranked first nationwide for two consecutive years in two categories?landfill and biogasification of organic waste resources?at the '2019 National Waste Treatment Facility Operation Performance Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of Environment.
This evaluation has been conducted by the Ministry of Environment since 2015 to systematically manage waste treatment facilities and improve the efficiency of waste disposal.
Last year, the evaluation targeted 666 public waste treatment facilities nationwide and was divided into six categories: incineration, landfill, resource recovery, combustible waste fuelization, biogasification of organic waste resources, and food waste treatment facilities. It assessed 34 indicators based on ▲facility operation performance ▲efforts to improve economic efficiency ▲creation of resident benefits.
As a result, following 2018, the Sudokwon Landfill Site's Second Landfill ranked first nationwide among landfill facilities, and the leachate treatment plant and food wastewater biogasification facility were selected as first nationwide among biogasification facilities for organic waste resources for two consecutive years.
The Second Landfill of the Sudokwon Landfill Site received high marks for operating and managing the landfill hygienically and comfortably by preemptively blocking odors, dust, and scattered waste that could occur during the waste landfill process.

Additionally, the leachate treatment plant and food wastewater biogasification facility utilized biogas generated during the treatment of food wastewater as a heat source for drying sewage sludge, saving approximately 3.7 billion KRW annually, earning high scores in economic efficiency indicators.
Kim Youngjun, Director of Management Planning at the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation, stated, "We will continue to lead a resource-circulating society and contribute to creating a pleasant living environment in surrounding areas through systematic and stable facility operation and management."
