Percussionist Han Mungyeong to Hold Solo Recital at Seoul Arts Center on the 2nd 원본보기 아이콘

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Percussionist Han Munkyung's recital will be held on the 2nd at 7:30 PM at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center. Han Munkyung performs a variety of percussion instruments including marimba, vibraphone, bongo, conga, kick drum, bass drum, tom-tom, gong, hi-hat, cymbals, woodblock, and crotales.


Han Munkyung graduated from Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, completed a bachelor's degree at The Juilliard School, the highest performance course at the Conservatoire National de R?gion de Paris (CNR de Paris), and then completed a master's degree at The Juilliard School.


At age 12, she won the unanimous grand prize at the Japan Marimba International Competition, first place at the Paris Marimba Competition, the Young Talent Award at the World Marimba Competition, first place nationwide in the US MTNA Competition and the Yamaha Special Award, and second place and Best Interpretation Award at the Poland Contemporary Music Chamber International Competition.


In the first part of the performance, works include Kim Hyunmin (1966~)'s "12 Etudes for Marimba," the 4th movement vibraphone solo from Philippe Manoury's (1952~) Clavier Suite, Joseph Pereira's (1974~) "Five Pieces for Solo Marimba," and the fourth piece from Choi Jaehyuk's (1994~) Self in Mind series, "Ⅳ for Percussion Solo."


In the second part, Kevin Volans' (1949~) "She Who Sleeps with a Small Blanket," arranged for bongo, conga, kick drum, and marimba, and Mark Applebaum's (1967~) vibraphone solo "Entre Funerailles Ⅱ. For Solo Vibraphone" will be performed, followed by Akira Miyoshi's (1933-2013) "Ripple for Solo Marimba" to conclude the recital.


Han Munkyung is a member of the percussion duo moitie (meaning "half") and the TIMF Ensemble, and currently serves as a professor at the Tianjin Juilliard School. For performance inquiries, please call 02-541-2512.
