Practical, Hands-On Training for Non-Majors in AI
Seocho District in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seongsoo) announced on November 9 that 96% of participants passed the 'AICE (AI Certificate for Everyone)' certification course, which was operated to enhance young people's capabilities in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
'AICE' is a nationally accredited certification exam that assesses practical AI skills. Its key feature is that even non-majors with no coding experience can participate in hands-on exercises using only mouse clicks, allowing them to verify their AI utilization abilities.
Last year, Seocho District was designated as the first AI-specialized zone in the country, and has since provided various educational programs to help residents learn and use AI in their daily lives. In particular, the district introduced the 'AICE Basic Certification Course' for the first time to significantly enhance practical AI skills among young people and offer opportunities to earn certifications.
The training was conducted as a short-term intensive course over five days, from October 20 to 24. It was offered completely free of charge, including support for the exam fee, which led to applications exceeding three times the recruitment quota, reflecting high interest. The curriculum focused on practical skills, covering fundamental AI concepts, model design, data analysis, and process implementation. Out of 30 participants, 28 completed the course, resulting in a 96% pass rate.
Participants stated, "Obtaining a professional certification has helped improve my competitiveness in the job market," and "I was highly satisfied because the training was practical and useful for work." According to the district office, overall satisfaction with the course was reported at 100%.
Seocho District is also operating customized programs by age group to further expand the base of AI education. The 'Seocho AI Academy' is expanding hands-on courses focused on content creation using generative AI, while the 'Resident Digital Literacy Education' program is open to all Seocho residents. These programs broadly cover useful digital skills for daily life, such as how to use generative AI and document creation.
Jeon Seongsoo, Mayor of Seocho District, stated, "We are continuously expanding various educational opportunities so that all generations, including young people, can easily learn and utilize AI technology. Moving forward, we will continue to enhance residents' capabilities based on AI technology and build Seocho into a future-oriented smart city where innovation is realized in everyday life."
