"Reducing Resident Inconvenience" Governor Shin Woochul of Wando Visits Remote Islands for On-Site Communication

Continuous Proposals for Improvements in Transportation and Ferry Services

On November 7, Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced that it had operated a "Mobile Governor's Office," in which county officials personally visited the living sites of residents on remote islands to hear their opinions.

This Mobile Governor's Office targeted Sahudo and Gomado in Gunoe-myeon. Wando County visited these locations to examine the living conditions of residents in areas separated from the main island, where administrative support is difficult to reach, and to reflect their suggestions in county administration.

There are about 40 households residing on Sahudo and Gomado, with sea cucumbers and oysters serving as the primary sources of income. A regular passenger ferry connecting the mainland and the islands operates three times a day.

On this day, residents proposed several improvements, including ▲ increasing the number of bus routes between Daeya 2-ri and the central market, ▲ installing a multipurpose winch, and ▲ establishing a supplementary route for a car ferry.

Governor Shin Woochul stated, "Since the establishment of a supplementary route and the operation of a car ferry require significant budget and time, we will proceed with these projects in phases. In particular, we will continue to consult with the Oceans and Fisheries Agency regarding the supplementary route to minimize inconvenience for residents." He added, "We will continue to communicate openly with residents of remote islands and work to improve their living environment."

Meanwhile, Wando County operates the "Mobile Governor's Office," which visits various regions, including remote islands, to listen to the voices of county residents throughout the year.
