Park Hyungjun Confirmed as People Power Party Candidate for Busan Mayor... Set for Showdown with Jeon Jaesoo of Democratic Party
Park Hyungjun, the current mayor, has been confirmed as the People Power Party's candidate for the Busan mayoral election in the June 3 local elections.
On April 11, Park Deokheum, head of the party's Central Nomination Management Committee, held a briefing at the party headquarters in Yeouido and announced that Mayor Park defeated Assemblyman Joo Jinwoo in the party primary to secure the nomination.
This Busan mayoral race will be a direct contest between Mayor Park, who is seeking a third term, and Jeon Jaesoo of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Born in 1960 in Choryang-dong, Dong-gu, Busan, Mayor Park began his political career after being appointed as a professor at Dong-A University in 1991 and participating in civic movements.
He made his official entry into politics by winning a seat in the 17th National Assembly election in 2004 as the candidate for Suyeong-gu, Busan, representing the Grand National Party (now the People Power Party).

Having won both the Busan mayoral by-election in April 2021 and the local election in June 2022, Mayor Park now seeks a third term as Busan mayor with this confirmed nomination.
