View original imageIn short-track speed skating, rankings are determined by differences as small as 0.001 seconds, and fleeting moments such as slight contact between skaters or the position of a skate blade decide victory or defeat. Displays are being used as core equipment at the venue to assist with accurate officiating.
Samsung Electronics supplied Samsung monitors, selected as official sponsored products for this Winter Olympics, to the "Field of Play" area inside the short-track venue, where referees conduct video reviews, and to the "Video Room," where decisions are examined.
In the "Field of Play" area, a 37-inch ViewFinity S8 (S80UD) monitor has been installed. With its 37-inch size, 4K UHD (3840×2160) resolution, and 16:9 aspect ratio, the ViewFinity S8 provides an optimal environment for officiating. Compared with a conventional 32-inch screen, the expanded display area shows more detailed elements of the race at the same zoom level, allowing officials to check critical moments at a glance.
In particular, its wide color gamut based on HDR10 and precise contrast expression clearly render moments of contact and athletes' movements, enhancing both the accuracy and reliability of officiating.
In the "Video Room" operated by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), the official Olympic broadcaster under the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Odyssey Ark has been installed. This product features a large 55-inch screen with a 1000R curved display to minimize distortion and maximize immersion. It supports 4K UHD resolution (3840×2160) and a fast 1-millisecond (ms, GtG) response time, delivering the dynamic, high-speed action of short-track races with clear and smooth visuals.

Lee Heon, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "In events like short-track, where split-second moments determine the outcome, it is crucial how accurately scenes can be checked on site and how optimally the video is transmitted," adding, "We will continue to introduce displays optimized for global sporting events and a wide range of on-site operating environments."
