Yangyang County in Gangwon Province will suspend water supply construction for the winter season starting December 25, 2025, until a separate notice of resumption is issued sometime in March next year.

This measure is intended to prevent substandard construction due to ground freezing in winter, as well as to avoid delays in road restoration and to prevent inconvenience and safety accidents for residents caused by icy conditions.

The county closed applications for water supply construction on December 5 and plans to accept new applications starting from the first week of March next year. It announced that from December 25, 2025, until the thawing period in March (or until a separate notice is given), all new water supply and modification construction projects for residential and industrial water within the county’s water supply area will be suspended.

Water supply construction for applications already received will proceed sequentially. However, if these projects cannot be completed by the temporary suspension date, they may be carried over to next year.

An official from Yangyang County stated, "We had no other choice but to suspend water supply construction to ensure a stable supply," adding, "We will make thorough preparations so that construction can resume quickly next year."

Meanwhile, to respond promptly to various winter-related freezing incidents, the county will operate an emergency restoration team and a standby water supply team until February next year, striving to prevent any inconvenience in tap water use due to issues such as water meter freezing or leaks.
