A Total of 34 kg... Enough for 1.13 Million Simultaneous Doses
Narcotics disguised as oolong tea bags have been discovered once again along the coast of Jeju Island.
The Jeju Regional Coast Guard Headquarters announced that at approximately 2:26 p.m. on November 18, a suspicious substance wrapped in oolong tea packaging was found along the coast of Jocheon-eup, Jeju City. The Coast Guard believes the item closely resembles ketamine narcotics that have recently been found along Jeju’s coastline in oolong tea packaging. They plan to identify the substance through a preliminary reagent test.
Recently, narcotics disguised as tea bags have been repeatedly found in Jeju. On the previous afternoon, a marine environmental guardian discovered a suspicious substance wrapped in a silver tea bag while cleaning the coast in Udo-myeon, Jeju City, and reported it to the police. After conducting a substance test, the police confirmed that the contents were ketamine.
From September 29 until November 18, over a period of 50 days, there have been fifteen cases of 'tea bag narcotics' discovered at Jeju Port, Aewol-eup, Jocheon-eup, Gujwa-eup, Yongdam Port, Udo coast, and Gwangchigi Beach in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo City.
If the result of the current preliminary reagent test also confirms ketamine, the total amount of narcotics found by the police will reach 34 kilograms. This is enough for approximately 1.13 million doses, based on a single dose of 0.03 grams.
The Coast Guard and other authorities are conducting intensive searches, especially along the northern coast of Jeju where the narcotics have mainly been found, and are working through international cooperation to trace the specific routes through which the drugs are being brought in.
