US Court Blocks Trump's Order to Deploy Military to Chicago

A U.S. federal court has blocked President Donald Trump's order to deploy the military to Chicago, Illinois.

According to the Associated Press on October 9 (local time), Judge April Perry of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois halted the military mobilization ordered by President Trump, stating, "I have not seen decisive evidence of the risk of insurrection in Illinois."

Judge Perry said that most of the Department of Homeland Security's actions to deploy troops to Chicago were based on President Trump's animosity toward Illinois officials, and declared the department's claims "not credible."

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker stated, "The court has confirmed what we all know," adding, "There is no reason for the National Guard to be deployed to the streets of American cities like Chicago."

The suspension ordered by Judge Perry is set to last until 11:59 p.m. on the 23rd of this month. Before that, a hearing will be held by phone on the 22nd to decide whether to extend the suspension.

Previously, President Trump had ordered the federal government to deploy the military to Chicago, citing protests taking place near Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in downtown Chicago as the reason.
