Chairman Choi Jaehae Nominates Former Public Office Audit Bureau Chief Jeong Sangwoo as New Secretary General

On September 9, Choi Jaehae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, recommended the appointment of Jeong Sangwoo, former Director General of the Public Office Audit Bureau, as the new Secretary General.

Jeong Sangwoo, the newly appointed Secretary General, was born in 1968. He graduated from Sangsang High School and the Department of Economics at Seoul National University, and earned a Ph.D. in Technology Policy (Engineering) from Yonsei University. After passing the 36th Higher Civil Service Examination in 1992, he joined the Board of Audit and Inspection in 1998 and has held a wide range of key positions, including Director General of the Public Office Audit Bureau, President of the Audit Training Institute, Director General of the Industrial and Financial Audit Bureau, Director General of the Land and Maritime Audit Bureau, Director of the Administrative Support Office, and Head of the First Division of the Fiscal and Economic Audit Bureau.

The Board of Audit and Inspection stated, "While serving as Head of the First Division of the Strategic Task Audit Team in 2013, Jeong Sangwoo led an audit on 'Public Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices,' uncovering tax resources worth over 100 billion won through information sharing among public institutions and enabling 144 missing persons to be reunited with their families."

The Board of Audit and Inspection also noted that, during his tenure as Director General of the Land and Maritime Audit Bureau in 2018, Jeong Sangwoo led audits on various topics closely related to the daily lives of citizens, such as 'Railway Safety Management Practices,' 'Apartment Noise Between Floors Management Practices,' and 'Fine Dust Management Practices,' thereby contributing to the improvement of public welfare.

In 2020, Jeong Sangwoo was selected as the 'Administrator to Emulate' and the 'Most Outstanding Administrator' in a 'Managerial Leadership Evaluation' conducted by staff members. In 2024, he was also recognized as an Exemplary Military Service Family.
