The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on September 9 that it is urging the public to exercise particular caution following recent incidents in which the names of public officials affiliated with the office were impersonated in attempts to place orders with small business owners.

Since September 4, several businesses have received calls to confirm orders allegedly placed under the name of "Gyeongbuk Office of Education, ○○ Department, Officer A." The main office call center has also received numerous inquiries seeking to verify the identities of officials. In response, the office promptly reported the incidents to the local police station on the same day and is taking swift action, including investigating whether there have been additional cases of damage.

Taking this incident as an opportunity, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has sent official notices to all affiliated institutions in the province to raise awareness about cases of identity theft involving staff. The office has also posted alerts on the websites of various institutions, urging students, parents, and the local community to remain vigilant.

Additionally, the office has provided guidance on thoroughly managing personal information (including strengthening the management of personal contact details) and instructed staff to immediately verify and report any suspicious cases.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education further emphasized, "Neither the office nor its affiliated institutions send official documents via personal mobile phones or request deposits into personal bank accounts. All transactions are conducted through official documents, email, and institutional phone numbers," adding, "Please be aware that orders for goods will never be placed using personal names or unofficial contact methods."

Lim Jongshik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "This incident is an illegal impersonation unrelated to the office, and there are concerns about potential harm to provincial residents and small business owners. We will work in cooperation with the police and other relevant agencies to prevent further damage and respond swiftly."
