Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyungdeok) announced on August 8 that it has been finally selected in the regional proposal category of the '2025 Specialized Public Rental Housing Contest Project' organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and that the integrated public rental housing construction project has officially begun in earnest.

The planned construction site is at 722 Jihaeng-dong (currently the Songnae 4 Public Parking Lot site), where a total of 210 units of integrated public rental housing for young people and newlyweds will be built. Notably, this housing project will use a construction method that connects prefabricated steel frame modules to the building core, making it the first in Korea to construct an innovative 25-story model, which is drawing significant attention.

This project goes beyond simple housing supply and will be developed as a complex that includes welfare and community facilities such as a family center, shared kitchen, and party room. Through this approach, it is expected to contribute not only to residential stability for tenants but also to improving quality of life and revitalizing the local community.

The site is located in an area densely populated with neighborhood parks, educational institutions, administrative agencies, and commercial facilities. It also boasts excellent metropolitan transportation networks, including Jihaeng Station on Subway Line 1, the Second Metropolitan Ring Expressway, and the Sejong?Pocheon Expressway. This area is highly regarded for its residential environment, making it especially suitable for young people.

This project was initiated after Dongducheon City and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in August last year to build integrated public rental housing at Jihaeng Station.

Additionally, its proximity to the Sangpae-dong National Industrial Complex, scheduled for completion in 2026, positions it as a strategic housing infrastructure capable of accommodating the expected demand from future workers.

In particular, the complex development including a family center is expected by the city to have positive ripple effects in various areas, such as strengthening local welfare services and revitalizing the local economy, by expanding spaces for resident participation and interaction.

Mayor Park Hyungdeok stated, "This selection is very meaningful as it provides a secure residential foundation for young people and newlyweds," adding, "It will serve as an important turning point for Dongducheon City's housing welfare policy and make a significant contribution to enhancing urban competitiveness."

Mayor Park further added, "We will closely cooperate with Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation and related agencies to ensure the smooth progress of the project."
