Oil Cultivated on 145 Square Kilometers of Farmland
A Decade of Hair Science Research
Blended with Sunflower Seed Oil
Up to 94% Improvement in Breakage and Damage Prevention
Global technology company Dyson has launched its first hair care products based on sunflower seed oil grown at its own farm, marking an expansion of its beauty business. This move extends Dyson's technology-driven approach beyond beauty devices to ingredient formulation.
According to Dyson on August 6, the newly released 'Dyson Omega Nourishing Care Line' is the company's first product made with sunflowers cultivated at its own sunflower farm in Lincolnshire, UK. Dyson describes this as a 'Farm to Formulation' approach, highlighting it as a symbol of the company's experimental spirit that connects technology, agriculture, and beauty.
This new line consists of two products: the 'Dyson Omega Hydrating Oil,' a hair oil, and the 'Dyson Omega Leave-In Conditioning Spray,' a spray-type product. The key ingredient is the proprietary 'Oli7 Blend,' which combines sunflower seed oil from the Dyson farm with six other plant-based oils?macadamia, avocado, abyssinian, and olive oils?blended in optimal proportions.
The company explained that these ingredients provide immediate nourishment and hydration to hair, improve hair breakage by up to 94%, and effectively protect against damage caused by heat or external stressors. In addition, the leave-in conditioning spray reduces frizz by up to 90% and maintains hydration for 48 hours.
Dyson emphasized that this product launch is not merely an expansion of its cosmetics line, but rather an extension of over a decade of hair science research and technological investment. In 2016, during the development of the 'Supersonic' hair dryer, Dyson analyzed approximately 1,625 kilometers of hair, and since then, has invested over 100 million pounds in global research labs to scientifically analyze hair stress from heat damage, coloring, and brushing.
James Dyson, founder of Dyson, stated, "We have advanced hair care technology based on aerodynamics, motors, and heat control technology. This time, we experimented with connecting ingredients obtained through agriculture directly to the product." He added, "We believe this will help address concerns about dry and frizzy hair."
Dyson Farming, Dyson's agricultural division established in 2012, operates approximately 145 square kilometers of farmland across the UK. Its main products include strawberries, grains, and livestock, and it has incorporated sustainable agricultural technologies through glass greenhouses and anaerobic digestion facilities.
Meanwhile, in addition to the Omega line, Dyson also operates a chitosan-based styling lineup. The chitosan line focuses on enhancing styling hold, utilizing chitosan extracted from mushrooms to strengthen the fixing effect. The Dyson beauty lineup consists of a total of five products.
The new products are available through Dyson's official online store and Dyson Beauty stores. The prices are 79,000 KRW for the Hydrating Oil (30ml) and 99,000 KRW for the Leave-In Conditioning Spray (165ml), with refill products available for separate purchase.
