Partial Business Expense Support for Supported Companies, Manufacturing Innovation Activities Support, and Manufacturing Know-How Transfer
August Recruitment for Basic Level Smart Factory Establishment Support Project, Final Selection of 10 Companies
Busan City supports the ‘Large-Medium-Small Win-Win Smart Factory Basic Stage Construction Project’ in collaboration with Samsung Electronics to advance the manufacturing industry and promote digital transformation (DX).
For the first time this year, the ‘Large-Medium-Small Win-Win Smart Factory Basic Stage Construction Project,’ carried out in partnership with local governments, aims to enhance the manufacturing competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The city and Samsung Electronics collaborate to provide phased support for building various types of smart factories suitable for manufacturing sites, while Samsung companies offer a variety of programs to the supported enterprises.
The city and Samsung Electronics each contribute 30% of the project cost (100 million KRW), up to a maximum of 60 million KRW, with the supported companies covering 40% of the expenses.
Three current Samsung Electronics experts will reside at the supported companies for 6 to 8 weeks to assist with manufacturing innovation activities such as optimizing factory layouts and to transfer manufacturing know-how.
Supported companies can apply regardless of whether they have business dealings with Samsung Electronics. They will also receive assistance in discovering and connecting with domestic and international buyers through Samsung Electronics’ network, as well as workforce training to maintain and strengthen smart factories, which is expected to greatly aid company growth.
In August, the city recruited participating companies for the ‘Smart Factory Basic Stage Construction Support Project (Samsung Model)’ and ultimately selected a total of 10 companies among the applicants. The city plans to provide a budget of approximately 400 million KRW in city funds to the selected companies.
Until last year, the city supported the dissemination and expansion of smart factories to a total of 1,860 companies, including 1,425 at the basic stage and 435 at the advanced stage, to promote the advancement and expansion of digital transformation (DX) in manufacturing.
This accounts for 5.7% of the 32,662 companies nationwide, ranking seventh in the country.
▲ At the advanced stage, national government funds support the construction of advanced smart factories based on collaborative robots and artificial intelligence (AI) for companies that have completed the basic stage. ▲ At the basic stage, city funds support the construction of intelligent factories focusing on automation and digitalization of production information for sites that have not yet implemented smart factories.
