Mercury, a specialized information and communication equipment company, has signed a contract with KT, the main contractor of the Navy's Maritime Operational Satellite Communication System (MOSCOS)-II project commissioned by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

Based on this achievement, the company plans to actively participate in various satellite projects, including defense projects and low Earth orbit satellite communications.

According to Mercury on the 10th, the project contracted with KT involves purchasing terminals and control station equipment with improved performance to replace the aging maritime operational communication infrastructure system, the Maritime Operational Satellite Communication System. The contract is worth 20.5 billion KRW and covers the period from October 7, this year, to December 15, 2027.

This project attracted interest from major defense and system integration (SI) companies, and KT was selected as the contractor, signing the contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration last September.

Mercury will utilize excellent technology and proven commercial equipment to build networks, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), information security, access control, and monitoring systems for the Navy's control stations and terminal stations (medium and large vessels, small vessels, submarines, etc.).

A Mercury official stated, “The Maritime Operational Satellite Communication System, which began as a company-led R&D project in 2001, was evaluated as a revolutionary improvement to the Navy's operational communication network using the Mugunghwa satellite at that time. We expect to contribute to the operational deployment of the MOSCOS-II project based on the technology and know-how accumulated over the past 24 years through system construction and maintenance.”

He added, “Based on our achievements in military satellite projects so far, the company plans to actively participate in various satellite projects, including defense projects and low Earth orbit satellite communications. We also plan to expand our defense business by participating in military smart projects, which will play a key role on the battlefield.”
