[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 50s who threatened to expose women working at prostitution establishments has been sentenced to prison again in the second trial following the first trial.
On the 21st, according to Changwon District Court, the Criminal Division 3 (Chief Judge Lee Yong-gyun) sentenced A (52), who was tried on charges including extortion, to 10 months in prison, the same as the original sentence.
In 2018, A sent the victim nude photos via text message and threatened, "Do you know who I am? Do you remember borrowing money from me in Japan? If you don't repay the money, I will post the photos and the fact that you engaged in prostitution on the internet and tell your parents."
As a result, the victim transferred 6 million won to A.
A threatened three other victims in the same manner to send a total of 40 million won. However, the victims refused, and the attempt failed.
It was reported that from 2003 to 2013, A brokered Korean women to work at prostitution establishments in Japan and kept their phone numbers and nude profile photos.
The court stated the sentencing reason: "The nature of the crime is serious, and the victims are believed to have suffered considerable mental distress. The original sentence for the defendant cannot be considered excessively harsh or lenient."
