Top female group 2NE1 has won big on local music charts, in just hours after their brand new single "I LOVE YOU" became available online.
Breaking out from a year-long hiatus, the four K-pop queens has knocked off all previous chart-toppers on Melon, Mnet, ollehmusic, Bugs, Soribada, and Cyworld music, as of 9 a.m. on July 5, KST, YG Entertainment announced in the press release on Thursday.
The girls' new tune is a cross-genre collaboration of electronica and trot music--an old Korean pop music genre based on four beats and sad melody from Japanese ballad "enka."
The officials said the quartet has decided to keep challenging new genres and styles with "I LOVE YOU," rather than sticking to the same style of music.
Along with their comeback, 2NE1 is to kick off their world tour, "NEW EVOLUTION," which will be held in ten cities in seven countries starting with the Seoul leg on July 28 and 29.
