Korean girl group 2NE1 has been named the best new band in the world by MTV IGGY, according to MTV IGGY's official website.

On Friday, MTV IGGY's website showed that more than 4.3 million fans from 169 countries voted for 2NE1 who beat out other international artists such as Ghostpoet, Gyptian, Skrillez and Yuna to take the title of best new band. "We were so happy from the moment we knew we were nominated and it is so great to see people showing interest in us and we are extremely ecstatic to have won," 2NE1 leader CL said in their interview with MTV IGGY.

The girls will perform at a live concert to be held in New York's Times Square on December 12 which will be streamed on MTV IGGY's official website.

2NE1, formed of members Park Bom, CL, Sandara Park and Minzy, is one of the most popular girl groups since making their debut in May 2009. The girls have been focusing on their singing activities in Japan and released their first mini-album in September.

2NE1 is preparing for the "15th Anniversary YG Family Concert," also featuring YG Entertainment labelmates Big Bang, Se7en, Gummy, PSY and Tablo, set to take place at the Olympic Park Stadium in Seoul on December 3 and 4.
