Korean idol group 2PM and girl band After School topped K-pop music charts, each taking the No. 1 spot on televised music shows over the weekend.
Six-member boy band 2PM won the crown on KBS's "Music Bank" on Friday with their latest single "Heartbeat" for the fourth consecutive week, after seeing their first win on November 27. They were unable to appear on Friday's show however, due to conflicts with their schedule.
Girl group After School took their first win ever on SBS's "Inkigayo", which aired live on Sunday, with their hit single "Because Of You". The group won the award over six other contenders including Brown Eyed Girls, f(x), K. Will, Park Jin-young, T-ara and U-Kiss.
The members, including leader GaHee, shed tears upon giving their acceptance speech when it was announced that they had won the top prize.
Sunday's show also featured performances by 2NE1's CL and Minzy, Eun Ji-won, See Ya, Ivy and Younha.
