Veteran actor Jo Jae-hyun and director Jeon Kyu-hwan's new project is to bring melancholy heaviness and in-depth emotions to the 2012 Venice International Film Festival.
“The Weight" (working title) has become the first Korean film to be selected for Venice Days, the independent sidebar for emerging filmmakers, during this year's VIFF opening from August 30 to September 9, distribution firm NEW said Wednesday.
The 106-minute movie visualizes the pain, sorrow and weight of life into beautiful pictures, choreography and excellent description of the character.
"The Weight" is the latest feature by award-winning director Jeon Kyu-hwan of melodrama "Varanasi" and social commentary pic "Dance Town."
Jeon's profound insight on social issues have also been recognized by people in the related business and he has been awarded at the 2011 Granada International Film Festival and the 2011 Asian Film Festival of Dallas.
A selected number of entries under Venice Days will be supported by the Europa Cinemas Label to receive distribution aid as well.
Jo and Jeon's upcoming movie will hit local theaters in the second half of 2012.
