"Gaksital" outspaces "Ghost," "I Do I Do" in ratings, score 3rd straight win

Judging by its continued upturn in ratings, KBS TV series "Gaksital" is expected to be the broadcaster's second hit drama during the first half of this year after "Man From the Equator."

"Gaksital" climbed up another 0.6 percentage points and posted an average rating of 14. 6 percent this week, scoring its third consecutive win since kicking off the run on May 30, according to data compiled by TNmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics).

Though the increase was less than a percent, "Gaksital" saw bigger gaps with the front-runner's competitors than last week, as they made mild downturns on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Gaksital" is a TV adaptation of 1974 comic book of the same name by Huh Young-man, portraying the story of Koreans during the Japanese colonial period in the 1930s.

SBS' "The Phantom," which was deemed as another strong candidate on the primetime lineup by starting off the first two episodes with an average rating of 11.4, saw its ratings dip this week.

The So Ji-sub and Lee Yeon-hee's starrer dropped 1.1 percentage points from the previous figure and posted 12.5 percent on this week's chart, TNmS showed.

Coming in last is MBC's "I Do I Do," in which actress Kim Suna plays a single shoe designer in her thirties and actor Kim Jang-woo plays a 20-something man who just got hired at the company she manages.

Despite the show's smooth start off after attracting about 12.5 percent of the viewers for the first two runs, the romantic comedy scored only 8 percent this week.

Over on the AGB Nielson Media Research's chart, figures showed that "Gaksital" grabbed the top seed with 14.7 percent of audience tuned in during the same time frame.

"The Phantom" and "I Do I Do" followed next in order, posting 11. 4 and 9. 6 percent, respectively.
