Jang Keun-suk cast as male lead in upcoming TV series

Hallyu star Jang Keun-suk has been cast as the male lead in an upcoming TV series, according to his agency Tree J. Company on Tuesday.

Tree J. announced in a press release that Jang will portray a double role -- one named Seo In-ha (the father) and another named Seo-joon (the son) in the drama tentatively titled "Love Rain" which is scheduled to air in the first half of next year.

"Love Rain" will tell the story of Seo In-ha who is a sentimentalist and willing to do anything for the woman he loves during the 1970s and Seo Joon, the son of Seo In-ha, who is a programmer that lives a freewheeling lifestyle in the present time.

The new series, which will begin shooting next month, is a collaboration between director Yoon Suk-ho and scenarist Oh Soo-yeon who has worked on hit series "Autumn Tale" and "Winter Sonata."

"I was sad at first since Jang wasn't able to take part in 'Love Rain' due to his busy schedule but later signed on after he was able to adjust his activities because we needed plenty of time to prepare for the series," Yoon was quoted as saying.

"I feel extremely honored that I was offered a part in this drama and to be working with director Yoon whom I admire so much," Jang said in the press release.

Having made his debut as a catalog model at the early age of five, Jang has starred in a number of films and dramas in Korea and also made his official debut as a singer in Japan this year.

He is currently working on film “You Are My Pet” alongside actress Kim Ha-neul.
