Super Junior member Sungmin will star in a new musical “Jack the Ripper” set to raise its curtains this summer.

According to a press release by M Musical Company on Thursday, Sungmin has been cast as the main lead in upcoming musical “Jack the Ripper” which will run at the Chungmu Art Hall in Seoul from July 5 to August 14.

The musical, based on an actual criminal case in London during the late 19th century, tells of mystery and romance surrounding a serial killer nicknamed Jack the Ripper who only attacks prostitutes.

With TV actors Um Ki-joon and Ahn Jae-wook, Sungmin will rotate the role of a young doctor named Daniel who comes to London in search of samples of dead bodies needed for his medical research, only to fall in love with one of the prostitutes in London named Gloria.
Other celebrities that will appear on the stage include singer-actor Shin Sung-woo who will play Jack the Ripper who will tempt Daniel, actor Yu Jun-sang and comedian Kim Joon-hyun as the pessimistic detective Anderson and entertainer Lee Jeong-ryeol as scoop-chasing reporter Monroe.

Sungmin, who debuted as a member of boy band Super Junior in 2008, became well known with his group with hit songs “Sorry Sorry” and “BONAMANA” and also as a member to its sub-unit Super Junior-M which focuses its activities in the China region.

He debuted as an actor in 2005, appearing as the young version of one of the main characters to MBC drama “Sea of Sisters” and recently as the son of a presidential candidate in KBS drama “PRESIDENT” (2010).
