On the 15th, President Lee Jae Myung addressed Korean residents in Japan, expressing, "I am proud of you," and pledged, "We will further expand practical support."


In a special message marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, President Lee stated, "You have demonstrated the strength of our people by excelling in various fields such as the economy, society, academia, the arts, and sports." He emphasized, "Your unwavering determination to maintain your community, preserve our language and history, and uphold your identity despite challenging circumstances has made these achievements possible."


President Lee reiterated, "I am truly proud of you," and added, "The government will provide even more attentive support to ensure that your remarkable contributions continue into the next generation." He also pledged, "We will further expand practical support, including education, culture, and network building, so that the next generation of overseas Koreans in Japan can maintain their pride and identity as Koreans and grow into talented individuals."

President Lee remarked, "We cannot overlook the stories of countless Korean residents in Japan who devoted themselves passionately to the noble goal of our nation's independence." He continued, "It was the passion and dedication of compatriots who kept the flame of the independence movement alive and supported the Provisional Government in places across Japan-including the YMCA auditorium in Tokyo, Hibiya Park, and Tennoji Park in Osaka-that enabled us to reclaim our freedom."


President Lee also noted, "During many critical moments, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) foreign exchange crisis, Korean residents in Japan continued to provide support." He added, "Young Korean residents in Japan made significant sacrifices on the path to our nation's democratization." He went on to say, "Among the 173 diplomatic missions of the Republic of Korea worldwide, the nine that were established solely through donations from local compatriots are a testament to the dedication of Korean residents in Japan."


President Lee concluded, "I believe that strengthening our national power and elevating our national prestige is the way to repay your unwavering support," and stressed, "The government will pay even closer attention so that your pride and dignity shine even brighter."
