Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 12th Changwon Special Mayor's Archery Competition at Masan Yongmajeong on the 10th.
The opening ceremony was attended by Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, Son Taehwa, Chairman of the Changwon Special City Council, and executives of the Archery Association. The ceremony proceeded in the following order: opening declaration, recitation of the nine archery commandments, return of the championship flag, and athlete's oath.
This competition, hosted by the Changwon City Sports Council and organized by the Changwon City Archery Association, was held to preserve the nation's unique traditions and promote camaraderie among enthusiasts. A total of 120 members of the Changwon City Archery Association participated, competing in both team and individual events (senior division, adult division, women's division, and general division), showcasing the skills they have honed over time.
The team event selected the top four teams based on the combined scores of three rounds, followed by a tournament format. The individual event determined the final rankings based on the scores from three rounds. Certificates, trophies, and prize money were awarded to outstanding performers (1st to 3rd place and encouragement awards) in both team and individual events. In addition, all participants aged 75 and older received encouragement awards, adding further significance to the competition.
Acting Mayor Jang Geumyong stated, "I congratulate everyone on the hosting of the Mayor's Archery Competition, a festival for Changwon's archery community. I hope this event serves as an opportunity to further inherit and develop the traditional martial art of archery, which has protected our nation throughout its long history." He also added, "We will continue our efforts to popularize both recreational sports and archery in the future."
