A total of 12 members are participating, including nine volunteer firefighters from the Yangju Fire Station, technical support from the drone specialist company BCD ENC Co., Ltd., and public officials.
The drone surveillance team will be active for two months, August and September. During periods of high risk for heat-related illnesses, such as when heat wave advisories are issued, the team will conduct surveillance using drones. They will also use speaker drones to provide citizens with safety guidelines, establishing an alert system to protect public safety.
At the launch ceremony held at Seojeong University on August 5, the team shared future activity plans and, after receiving technical support for field drone operations, began surveillance activities in the vicinity of Seojeong University. In August, the team will conduct a second round of on-site activities at Okjeong Lake Park and other locations. In September, they will complete their activities in major surveillance areas within the city and hold a final performance report meeting at the Dronebot Talent Education Center.
Yangju City expects that the activities of this drone surveillance team will strengthen cooperation with the local fire station and serve as a stepping stone for the formal establishment of a "specialized drone volunteer fire brigade" in the future.
An official from Yangju City stated, "We expect that the combination of advanced drone technology and the volunteer spirit of the fire brigade will provide stronger protection for citizens' safety. Based on the operation of this drone surveillance team, we will expand public safety services using drones and broaden the drone infrastructure in the region, further enhancing Yangju’s status as a cutting-edge city."
