World Premiere Scheduled at LA Auto Show
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its off-road concept car 'Crater' on November 17 (local time), targeting the U.S. market.
This concept car, a compact off-road SUV with outstanding performance and durability, is set to make its world premiere at 'Automobility LA 2025' in Los Angeles, California, on November 20.
Hyundai Motor Company described it as "the result of a design exploration embodying the spirit of adventure," adding, "It has been engineered to further reinforce the same spirit and ruggedness found in Hyundai's XRT production models, including the Ioniq 5 XRT, Santa Cruz XRT, and the new Palisade XRT PRO."
This concept was developed at the Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) located in Irvine, California.
According to Automotive News, "It showcases the hallmarks of off-road design and equipment," highlighting "enhanced ground clearance, a body and wide stance designed for rock crawling, large and thick tires, cladding and underbody protection, as well as roof-mounted lights and a gear rack."
The report continued, "The popularity of off-road utility vehicles (UTVs) is steadily increasing in the United States," noting that "automakers saw a surge in demand from people enjoying outdoor activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this trend remains strong." Currently, the Jeep Wrangler is a leading UTV in the U.S. market, with the Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport, Honda Passport, and Toyota Land Cruiser also available for purchase.
