SK Energy Apologizes for Ulsan Plant Fire, Vows Measures to Prevent Recurrence

On October 18, SK Energy issued an official apology regarding the pipeline fire that occurred the previous day at its Yongyeon-dong plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan, which resulted in the death of one worker and injuries to four others.

SK Energy, in a statement released under the name of CEO Kim Jonghwa, said, "We express our deepest condolences and apologies to the deceased, their bereaved family, and the injured workers and their families for this tragic incident."

SK Energy stated, "We take full responsibility for the accident that occurred at our Ulsan plant and recognize the seriousness of the matter. We will immediately provide all necessary support to the bereaved family and do our utmost to ensure the injured workers recover fully."

SK Energy emphasized that it would cooperate faithfully with the authorities to swiftly and accurately determine the cause of the accident, and that it would work together with external expert organizations to establish measures to prevent recurrence, thereby making a fundamental improvement to its safety management system.

On the morning of October 17, a fire broke out in a pipeline during maintenance work at the SK Energy Ulsan plant. Of the five workers injured in the incident, one employee of a partner company who sustained serious injuries died during treatment on the morning of October 18.
